Promoting active, confident, healthy kids

Helping our community to enjoy a better life is part of the Sanitarium mission. That’s why statistics on childhood obesity and physical inactivity rates are something we had to respond to.

We own and operate a national event that aims to get more people moving more often.

It isn't about being sporty or winning at all costs. It's all about getting out there and giving it a go, having fun with family. Above all, it's about inclusiveness, building self-confidence and instilling a love of physical activity that will last a lifetime.

Did you know? One hour of moderate or vigorous activity a day. That’s all it takes for Kiwi kids (5 to 18 years) to meet the recommended physical activity guidelines.

2020 series update

More than 44,000 kids give it a TRY!

The Weet-Bix Kiwi Kids TRYathlon series attracted 32,805 individuals prior to COVID-19 restrictions halting the remaining six events. More than 2,500 disadvantaged children were able to participate in the TRYathlon after receiving assistance in the form of subsidised entry or access to bikes, helmets and shoes from the Weet-Bix TRYathlon Foundation and community trusts.

The team introduced Weet-Bix Kids #TRYDIY as an alternative, allowing kids to organise a #TRYDIY of their own. By going for a swim, bike or run in their own backyard and submitting a video of their efforts, they received a Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Medal. The team received almost 2,660 entries. Those who were able to participate in the traditional event reported a 98% improvement in their sense of self-esteem.

The series is back on again for 2021. For more information, visit tryathlon.co.nz
